Automatic Vehicle Tracking
Tuesday, August 03, 2010
Soon, the question 'Where's my coach?' won't ever get the answer
'I don't know'. That's because, after years of extensive research
and testing, we've started introducing an Automatic Vehicle
Tracking system onto all our coaches.
According to Alex Perry, our Operations Director, it will mean
"we'll soon be able to pinpoint the exact location of any coach, at
any time. The new system will offer us a great deal of valuable
information, both for our customers and us as a business. It'll
analyse historic data to monitor how accurate our timetables are,
and recommend improvements based on actual performance."
It's already been tested on our Liverpool to Leeds service, with
daily reports showing an impressive 90% of coaches pull into their
destination within 10 minutes of their scheduled arrival time. The
system also gives us the flexibility to contact coaches and direct
them away from any traffic blackspots that lie ahead.
"The system's also increased the occupancy of our coach bays at
Stansted Airport - by as much as 50%," continues Alex. "The airport
is a very competitive area for coaches. And we're now able to see
gaps in the service and call coaches forward to make sure we're
constantly loading customers onto our services."
You won't be surprised to hear that, after all this success, all
our coaches will have running AVT systems by the end of the
year.
