New Airlinks fleet takes off
Thursday, June 17, 2010
Gatwick Airport customers will soon be able to enjoy an even
smoother ride between terminals and aircraft. That's because we've
just invested in 12 single-deck Mercedes Citaros that together will
handle the short shuttle runs around 450 times a day.
We were awarded the contract in September 2009, and this new
investment brings the average age of the fleet down to just three
years old. What's more, the new buses have 30% more capacity, are
air-conditioned and have greener, Euro 5 engines.
Andy Evans, our Director for our Owned Operations in the South
East, said: "Our new vehicles offer an improved customer experience
with extra room and brand new interiors, while also helping to
reduce carbon emissions at Gatwick."
Altogether, our Airlinks network at the airport carries around 2
million customers each year, and employs over 90 full-time
staff.
