The best thing about being an electrical engineer at National Express is that you wake up each morning never knowing what you're going to be asked to fix. Each job that comes your way could involve anything from a headlight bulb change to a complete wiring job.
I also like the vehicles I work on. I split my time between the main fleet - they're the big beasts you see on the motorways - and the Airlinks vehicles. The Airlinks coaches are the ones that ferry customers and crew around the airport at Gatwick.
Because you never know what's coming next, you're always on your toes. So is the company, really. The training's good and that keeps you up to date, especially the new vehicle training.
Speaking of which, I can't recommend the apprenticeship enough. It can be a four-year course, though I finished it in three. It's two weeks at work/two weeks at college and that's a good mix I reckon. It really got me started.
The other thing I like is the atmosphere in the garage. The people are quality and there's a good sense of humour about the place. I enjoy coming to work and not everyone can say that.
